Elephants thailand

The elephant has been a contributor to Thai society and its icon for many centuries. The Thai elephant (Thai: ช้างไทย, chang Thai) is the official national animal of Thailand. Elephant Nature Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation center in Northern Thailand where you can volunteer and visit to help.

We have been involved in dozens of rescues which have created our thriving elephant herd. The park provides a natural environment for elephants , dogs, cats, buffaloes and many other animals under our care. However, Thailand’s elephant ‘problem’ is a complex issue.

Elephants and their predecessors are thought to have been in Thailand since approximately million years ago. A massive collection of fossils were excavated in the Tha Chang area in Northern Thailand , including the ancient Prodeinotherium, an ancestor of elephants dating from the early Miocene era. Elephant Hills is the most responsible and sustainable Soft-Adventure Tour Operator in Southern Thailand. We do not only respect and value our elephants (hence there is no elephant riding at Elephant Hills!), but we also take excellent care of the environment, put great emphasis on recycling and resource-saving as well as cooperating closely with the local community by sourcing staff locally.

HANGING OUT with an elephant in Thailand is easy to do. What’s not so simple is finding a reputable place that cares about and protects its elephants. A well-taken-care-of elephant has room to roam and isn’t overworked by constantly performing in shows or giving endless rounds of rides.

Elephants World Sanctuary is located in Kanchanuburi, the west of Bangkok in Thailand.

There were some elephants that were discarded ever. Some of them have physical disability. A must-see for anyone who is.

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary is a project that has set up ethical sanctuaries in Thailand. We have three nature parks in Thailand , they are near Chiang Mai, Pattaya Phuket, and Samui. Visitors to the sanctuary will be able to fee bathe and play with the animals on their visit. More than elephants roam free here, and many of these have been saved from torturous camps that exploit elephants for tourism or logging purposes.

Riding elephants in Thailand. I wish I’d known… As a first-time visitor to Thailand myself, I paid for (and thus supported) an elephant-riding activity that – had I done my research – I would have completely avoided (see other mistakes made on that trip). Since then, I’ve read a lot on the subject of captive elephants for the tourist trade.

This is why we, Elephant Sanctuary Thailand , have decided to help in offering the urgent help the animals need by working with already established sanctuaries. Our responsibility at Elephant Sanctuary Thailand is to come up with a list of elephant sanctuaries where elephants get to live in the natural environment. The esteemed Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) has nine animal welfare projects across the country. Their elephant refuge centre is located close to Hua Hin and offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Thailand’s elephant conservation issues, while walking with and bathing the elephants. The refuge centre is also home to a host of other rescued animals, including monkeys and.

Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is a final home for retired working elephants , set on acres of lush tropical jungle. Observe how elephants rehabilitate into forest life after decades of abuse, and experience how incredible the largest land mammal on earth is during a day at our sanctuary.

Elephants have played an important part in Thailand’s history and today the Thai elephant (chang Thai,) remains as an enduring symbol of Thailand. In bygone eras they were used in warfare, but more recently elephants were used as a beast of burden, particularly in the logging industry. We are proud to be the first elephant sanctuary established on Koh Samui in Southern Thailand. Set on forested lan we offer a safe retirement home for elephants who have worked exhausting hours in the logging and tourism industries. Check it out, it is a wonderful experience, and our fees are among the cheapest!

Of those currently kept by the Burmese rulers—General Than Shwe regards himself as the heir of the Burmese kings—one is grey and the other three are pinkish, but all are officially white. The king of Thailand also keeps a number of white elephants, eleven of which are still alive.
